Update: Thunderstorm risk protocol
17/08/2019: There is a risk of thunderstorms throughout Sunday morning advised. The race director will announce a proceed/delay/cancel procedure at 7:30AM on Race morning, 90 minutes before the start of the first wave (10K start). This announcement will be posted on this race page and announced at the race site throughout the morning.

MEC KITCHENER TRAIL RACE 2019
In the event of thunder or lightning before the race:
Safety of participants, staff, and everyone involved is our number one priority. The race director will announce a proceed/delay/cancel decision 90 minutes before the start of the first event [7:30am]. This announcement will be posted here on the race website, sent to your e-mail, and announced at the race site.
In the event of thunder or lightning during the race:
- If you can hear thunder, you can get hit by lightning. When thunder roars, consider stopping your activity immediately and monitor your surroundings
- Remember the 30-30 rule: When you can count 30 seconds or less between lightning and thunder, head for safe shelter
- Remain sheltered until 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder.
Join MEC Kitchener for a fun and friendly trail race on Sunday August 18th, 2019 at Laurel Creek Conservation Area in Waterloo. A fantastic trail through dense forest, and along the reservoir! Get chip-timed results, coffee and bananas, plus unlimited high-fives from stoked MEC members and staff.
Our inclusive race will provide a little something for every racer - get out for a fun run with friends, bring a first-timer, or challenge yourself and your PB.
We’ll have live unofficial race results within one hour of runners crossing the finish line at the results station. Official standings will be posted on the Speed River Timing site as well as this page within two business days of the event. Be sure to check back!
We’ll be giving out medals to the top three male and female finishers in each distance category (no age categories awards).

Online registration begins on Friday February 1st, 2019 and closes at 12:00PM on Thursday August 15th, 2019.
Race day registration is cash only, and is available from 7:30–8:30am on August 18th, 2019 at the registration tent.

PARK ENTRANCE FEE
Please be aware that there is an additional $6 park entrance fee (regular pricing is $20 + $6 = $26 and day of race pricing is $30 + $6 = $36). When entering the park on race day participants will let the Conservation Area staff know they are taking part in the MEC Race. Any guests that you bring will also need to pay the $6 entrance fee.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: You must pay the park entrance fee when registering. We will NOT be accepting payments day of. You may only opt out of paying the park entry fee if you have a 2019 pass for Grand River Conservation Areas.

RACE BIB PICK-UP
To help prevent theft, if you are picking up for a friend you must bring a signed photocopy of their i.d. We will also accept an email to you if you can present this upon pick-up. We will release bibs to family members of the same last name. If you pick up your packet before race day, you can by-pass the bib line when you arrive. Please pick your bib up in store if possible as this drastically decreases wait times on race day.

SPECTATOR PARK ENTRANCE FEE
We love when people come along to cheer on the all the runners! But please be aware that spectators will be required to pay the regular admission fees for park entrance. This fee will be collected by the Conservation Area staff upon arrival to the park. The fee is a regular day admission, so you will be welcome to stick around after the race and enjoy the Conservation Area.
Parking is available on-site, see map below.
There will be a bag check on site race morning for your convenience. Feel free to leave a small bag there while you run. Bag check will open at 7:30am.
