ALPINE ROCK - Jul14
Rock climbing in the alpine is one of the most rewarding experiences a climber can have. The freedom of the hills is tempered by long approaches, complex descents, objective hazards, snow and glacier travel all combine to create a more unforgiving environment.
This course is designed to provide the multi pitch rock climber with additional skills and and strategies for managing alpine rock climbing objectives. Ideally suited to the experienced climber looking to move into areas like the Bugaboos, Slesse, and the North Cascades.
Safety and hazard recognition in the alpine environment.
Efficient and safe movement through long sections of 4th and low 5th class terrain.
Route selection, equipment and preparation.
Fundamentals of glacier travel..
Rockfall. Recognition, avoidance and mitigation.
Protection strategies and route finding.
Weather, retreats and bivoaucs.
Combing this course with Rescue Systems in the same weekend is highly recommended. This allows us sufficient time to teach the fundamentals of crevasse rescue. A 10% discount is given for this two day combo.
