MEC MTB RACE: Dawn of the Tread
Back for the 2nd year running, MEC is proud to present the Dawn of the Tread MTB Race. This is the Third Qualifier for the ABA’s Alberta XC Cup. There is an anticipated 250 racers expected based on last year’s turnout!
We have a brand new venue at Gold Bar Park on the north end of Edmonton. With swooping single-track, an epic downhill section and lots of single track, this course will be both challenging and fun.
A little bit of gravel double track mixed in with technical single track trails.
Riders will encounter roots, tight turns and fun, flowy downhill.

Registration & Sign On
**Registration closes on July 5th, 2018 at 11:59pm**
Registration for all Categories will be $45. There will be NO race day registrations.
Please note that all registrations are non-refundable, and non-transferable
Single Event Licenses (SEL) can be purchased at a cost of $10 for anyone without an ABA/UCI Race License. This can be done at the time of registration.
*Note: You are only allowed 2 SELs per year from any discipline. A SEL allows a rider to compete only in the Citizen Category
Racer sign on will be held under the ABA tent. Sign on closes 30min before your start time, and opens at 8:30AM. Please be considerate and if you are not racing until the later start, let the earlier start times sign up first.
This event will be run according to ABA/UCI regulations. Riders are responsible to know and understand these rules. They are available online here.
All riders must use a race plate and numbers that comply with UCI regulations. Such plates are available from your home track. Please bring your 2018 race plate with you. If this is your first race of the season, the ABA will provide you with numbers on race day.
All riders must sign-in, pick up and attach their number plate to the front of their bike prior to staging. Staging refers to the specific time that each category will be getting lined up and ready to race. Your plate should be attached to the front of your bike with the zip ties provided. Please make sure the number plate is worn on your front and is visible at the start and end of the race.

- Race Day - You can pick up from 8:30 am onwards. Your plate needs to be picked up 30 minutes prior to the race.
**All single event license holders are required to race in the Citizen Class race category corresponding to their age and gender. Citizen Class race categories will be split into the below outlined age/gender groups will race in Novice categories

Note: Staging for each category will start ten minutes prior to the scheduled race time
The ABA and event organizers may shorten races and/or alter the course dependant on weather, time delays and/or combine categories if necessary.
Pre-riding will be available prior to start time #1, #2 & #3, when there are NO CATEGORIES RACING ON COURSE
This year’s race will feature a brand new course. Located in Gold Bar Park, this 7km circuit features the classic Gold Digger, Hustler, and Moonraker trails. This is an intermediate course that has flow you will have to work for, with a few punchy climbs and elevation changes. There are two main bridges that would be challenging for less experienced riders. There will be an alternate route through these sections for the recreational rider.

The feed zone will be located in the same place as the mechanical zone. Spare wheels/bikes/tools may be left in the mechanical/feed zone and should be personally labelled. Please remember to collect your equipment upon completion of your race.
Racers are responsible for their own mechanical work and feed zone assistance
Medals will be awarded in each category for first, second and third place.
There are about 190 parking stalls at the main parking lot. Please do not park on the park road, as bylaw officers will ticket your vehicle.
Additional parking is located at Capilano Park located on the west side of 50th street. Additional parking is also available in Rundle Park, with access across the Gold Bar footbridge.
If you need medical assistance, please find a marshal on course who can call for medical support, or head to the Start/Finish line where a certified first aid responder with a fully stocked first aid kit can treat you. Should the injury be severe in nature, but non-life threatening (like broken bones), the nearest hospital is the Royal Alexandra Hospital located on 10240 Kingsway NW.
For all emergency first aid situations, call 9-1-1 immediately.
BAG/GEAR STORAGE: We do NOT have a secure bag check however, we will have a large tent by our registration tables to store your belongings. Detach the bottom portion of your bib and attach to your bag for identification. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGED, LOST OR STOLEN ITEMS.
BIKES AND EQUIPMENT: All your equipment needs to be in good, safe working condition and you must wear an approved bike helmet at all times.
ANTI-DOPING: The ABA complies with and fully supports the UCI anti-doping regulations, the clauses of the World Anti-doping Code and its international Standards to which the UCI anti-doping regulations refer and to the anti-doping regulations of other competent bodies as per the regulations of the UCI.
