MEC Toronto Race ONE: 5K / 10K

The Winter Run 2017


Chip Timed and Fully Supported!

Permits pending. Course subject to change.


Route Description:

Starting on the Martin Goodman Trail at Royal Canadian Legion Branch #344 the run will head EAST along the trail, splitting to the right at Marilynn Bell Park taking the SOUTH loop on the way out, turning around at BATTERY PARK and head back WEST along the Martin Goodman Trail, spitting to the right and following the NORTH loop back to the start. The 10km will complete two laps of the course.

Sunday, January 22nd, 2017

  • Registration will be open inside Royal Canadian Legion Branch 344 from 8:00am-9:00am.
  • 10K Race starts promptly at 9:00am
  • 5K Race starts promptly at 9:10am

Online registration is only $15.

Registration increases to $25 CASH the day of the event. Online registration CLOSES 12:00pm (EST) on Thursday, January 19th.

*Note: If you wish to change your race distance, this will be accepted up until ONLINE registration closes (i.e. the Thursday prior to race-day).

Kit Pick-up:

  • Where: MEC Toronto (400 King St. West)
  • Friday, January 20th from 10am to 9pm
  • Saturday, January 21st from 10am to 5pm

Event Parking:

There are three parking lots nearby the start/finish area.  Please give yourself enough time to try a second lot should your first option be full.

1)  Net Drive Parking Lot.
2)  Budapest Park Parking Lot.
3)  Medieval Times Parking Lot.

Turn south off Lake Shore Blvd West onto Net Drive. Follow Net Drive just south of the Lakeshore Public Tennis Courts to the parking lot on the east side. Please drive with caution as runners, cyclists and families will be out enjoying the day.

Bag Storage:

We do NOT have a secure bag store process.

  • MEC Toronto staff and volunteers are NOT responsible for any damaged, lost or stolen items
  • MEC Toronto staff and volunteers will NOT be able to hold any of your personal items

Safety Considerations:

The route is marshalled by MEC staff and volunteers, so please follow their instructions.

This path is open to the public, so keep to your right on the trail to allow cyclists and other path users to pass you. Check before overtaking another runner.


Medals will be awarded to each 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers for each distance and gender. So make sure to put your speedy shoes on!


A day or two following the race, your results will be posted here.

Walk to 5K:

Learn to run a fun and safe 5K over 10 weeks. You will learn techniques and skills necessary to confidently complete a 5K run. Tara, a very knowledgeable MEC Staffer will lead this run providing guidance and encouragement throughout each week.

Clinics will begin in late winter/early spring.

Run A Faster 10K:

This 10 week program is designed for the runner already comfortable with 5K, and are looking to push their 10K runs up a notch. Take an hour out of your Wednesday nights and join us for an engaging workout with an experienced clinic leader. 

Clinics will begin in late winter/early spring.

Meet-up Run @ Lunch:

We've found a way that you can squeeze in your training within the tight hours of your lunch break. This FREE clinic begins and ends at the MEC Toronto location, generally completing 3 to 4km, with an experienced run leader. It's a great way to get to know your fellow MEC run community and did I mention it's FREE?!

Meet-up Trail Run:

Yet another free clinic, this meet-up run takes place within the beautiful scenery of Evergreen Brickworks. Meet us in the parking lot for a 5 to 8km trail run led by another one of our experienced run leaders. Considering trail runs are a little more challenging than the average road run, some experience is required.
