Winterus Maximus - Feb04
We are organizing Edmonton's (and the world's!) second-annual fat bike-chariot race, Winterus Maximus, which will take place on Saturday, February 4th, 2017 as part of the Flying Canoe Festival.
Teams will be comprised of 2 bike riders and 1 charioteer. "Chariots" can be sleds, toboggans or any kind of winterized platforms that can carry a rider and follow the guidelines laid out in the design brief that we will release later this fall. Creativity & costumes are highly encouraged!
Course: The "course" will be the field behind Rutherford School (8620 Rue Marie-Anne Gaboury), next to La Cite Francophone, where all of the other Flying Canoe events will be taking place. We are getting the area measured but I estimate it at approximately 400 metres in circumference.
Who: This year, as we grow the competition, we would like to invite all of the major bike retailers in the Edmonton area to participate in their own category! In addition to who wins the race, teams will also be judged based on the design of their chariots. Winners will receive prize money, swag and eternal glory!
Cost: We are asking each individual entrant to pay $30 for the entry fee (therefore, a team of 3 pays $90 in total). This fee goes towards administration, insurance, equipment rentals and prize money. Participating bike retailers will also have an opportunity to set up tents/display booths at the racing concourse.
When: Registration will open on November 1st, however we are emailing bike retailers now to determine interest and estimate how many entrants we will have.
We have attached last year's promotional poster for additional details. We hope to see you there! Please let us know if you have any questions. We are excited to have you take part in this year's event!
