After a very successful first year in 2015, our Women’s Trail Running Festival is back! Join MEC,  Natural Fitness Lab and Amanda Brandimore for an inclusive day of fun to celebrate women’s trail running!

Entry to the festival includes an entry to a MEC trail race in addition to much more. This is a value packed day that you don't want to miss!

After surveying festival attendees in 2015, we have made slight changes to the structure of the event to ensure its continued improvement (a detailed schedule will follow in the coming weeks). The festival will feature:

  • Trail skills clinics with focussed coaching on the essential elements of trail running, including a more advanced group aimed at runners with some advanced trail running experience.
  • Amazing all female clinic coaches (please see below for details)
  • 2 very talented women will be sharing their experience in transitioning into the trail running community and using their vast experience to help them with their successes. More details to come!
  • A healthy lunch of foods suited to athletes.
  • Great sponsors including Nuun Active Hydration, and Strongbars.
  • Festival closing group run, including (new for this year) a longer run option on some more challenging terrain.
Speakers at the 2016 event:
  • Phoebe Miles
Coach & Mentor. Phoebe's mission as a life coach is to empower men and women to choose an abundant life. Phoebe was a participant at the 2015 trail festival as a newer runner, but now is an avid trail runner (by August she had completed the i2p 38k trail run), she is a keen XC skier, completing the Canadian Ski Marathon in 2015.
  • Nicky Cameron:

Nicky is going to talk about some technical aspects of trail running, what gear she uses, what she eats and when and what struggles she has been through trail racing, she has indepth experience with all the sports you could possibly chafe during, and how to prevent it!! Nicky was a varsity XC skier, has completed 7 expedition length Adventure races all over the world, including representing the all female Salomon sponsored team, the Bobittens 4 times. She has completed the Candadian Ski Marathon Coureur de Bois gold 6 times

Clinics and sessions will be presented by some incredible female athletes who have represented women at the highest levels of endurance sports. All of them are passionate and accomplished trail runners, including:

·      A Canadian Ultra Running champion

·      A Two-Time Olympian

·      A World Cup gold Medalist in Biathlon

·      The Winner of a historic Gatineau Loppet double

·      Members of Natural Fitness Lab and competitive athletes featured in the film Oxygen

Your entry fee for the day includes an entry to any distance at either of the MEC Ottawa trail races (July 10th or August 7th). We will collect the details of the race and distance you wish to sign up for at the trail festival. (If you are already registered for both MEC races, the entry is transferrable to a road race).

Take a look at the races ahead of time:

Heggtveit’s Revenge Trail Race - July 10th 2016

Gatineau Park Trail Races - August 7th 2016

We will be updating this website over upcoming weeks with information on your speakers, trail leaders and sponsors. Stay tuned for what is to be a great day out on the trails!

Thank you:

When registering, please enter your experience level to help us divide runners into appropriate coaching groups:

"Beginner" - I run, on the road and I want to run for the first time on trails as part of this festival.

"Intermediate" - I have done some trail running, but I really want to improve my skills on some of the technical aspects of the sport at the festival.

"Advanced" - I have competed in some trail races and have a specific 2016 racing goal, I want to take my technical skills to the next level on a variety of terrain. Note this group will be limited to the clinic portion of the day only, the group run will include all runners.

REGISTRATION AGE: Runners aged 16+ are welcome to attend the event unsupervised (with a signed (by parent/guardian) youth waiver). Runners under 16, but older than 12 are welcome to attend (supervised on the day by mother/female guardian (also registered for the festival), with a signed waiver). Youth waivers will be available on the day at Camp Fortune.
