5km / 10km / 15km / 30km

Sign up and invite your friends to the sixth MEC Race of 2016. This race is designed to fit in to your training for MEC Calgary Race SEVEN. You can run the 30km to get ready for the 42.2 km, or the 15 to prep for the 21.1km, or forget the goals, and get our for a nice fall stroll. Regardless of your reasoning, this SUPER affordable CHIP-TIMED race is right for you! There are a total of SEVEN races in the 2016 MEC Calgary Road Race Series from 5km to a full marathon!

This race will start at the beautiful Fish Creek Provincial Park, often crossing the creek as it runs down the spine of the park.



Registration: Online Registration will remain open until Friday evening. Race day, walkup registration will not be available!

Package Pickup:

Stop by MEC (830 10th ave SW) on Thursday September 22 from 4pm to 9pm to pick up your race bib and to receive a 10% discount on anything in the store, enabling you to stock up on gels and hydration for the race!

If unable to collect bib during package pickup, a friend can pick up your bib on your behalf or you can pick up your bib at the race site starting at 7:30am on race day.



Getting there

Parking: Please see the interactive Map below for more information on parking.

Cycling: Bike Racks will be provided and we encourage all race participants to cycle to the event. We also provide a bag check at all our running events so you can stash your gear while you run!

Transit: The closest train station is Somerset Bridlewood and it is about a 20 minute walk to the race start from there. Buses 178, 78 and the 103 also stop nearby.

Bag Check

We will have a bag check on the race site. Feel free leave a small bag and coat there while you run. Bag check opens with the race site at 730am.


About your Bib

Your bib comes complete with a timing chip to help give you an accurate race time. These chips are single use and can be disposed of after the event. Please make sure the bib is worn on your front and is visible at the start and end of the race. Also please don’t alter or fold the bib as this has the potential to damage the chip.


Water stations

The 5k will have one water station, the 10km will have 3 water stations, and the 10mi distance with have 5 water stations.

Here is what we are doing to make our events sustainability

·         Participants of MEC event are encouraged to Bike, Transit, Walk and car pool to the events

·         Bike racks are provided at MEC events to accommodate those who choose to ride to the event.

·         Transit friendly venues where possible

·         All of the cups used at events are 100% compostable

·         Multi-bin waste stations at races to help separate garbage from recyclable and compostable materials. After the event we sort event waste and compost, recycle and reuse what we can.

·         Over all, MEC Calgary store and office has over 95% waste diversion.

·         We choose minimal race packages and email communicate to our participants to help limit paper consumption.

How to lower your event impact

·         Transit, bike and car pool to events.

·         BYOB: Bring Your Own water Bottle.

·         Put your waste in the appropriate bins provided: Recycle, compost, waste

·         Reuse your own water bottle or the compostable cups provided.



We offer unique, community venues for our events. Remember that we are guests in these parks and the pathways are still open to the public. Please respect and accommodate other pathways users.

Music players: Although music players aren’t banned, we encourage you to use them wisely. If you are listening to music, we suggest running with only one earbud to help you be aware of your surroundings.

Strollers: We do allow people to run with strollers. We encourage people with strollers to start near the back to prevent injuring other runners with the stroller.

Dogs: We do not allow participants to run with dogs. We ask that spectators who bring their dogs to the race area keep them on a leash at all times.



Athletics Canada provides the following recommendations for maximum running distances for youth:

We are excited to be able to provide PRIMA bars for the runners at this event. After the race, organic Bananas will be available courtesy of SPUD (Sustainable Produce Urban Delivery)
