MEC strives to make great products and great events that lessen our impact on the environment and improve the lives of people we touch. With every part of MEC business, we look at the People, Planet and Product involved. For more information on Sustainability at MEC, take a look around

Here is what we are doing to make our events sustainable:

  • Participants of MEC events are encouraged to bike, take transit, walk and carpool to the events
  • Bike racks are provided at MEC events to accommodate those who choose to ride to the event
  • Host events at transit friendly venues where possible
  • All of the cups used at events are 100% compostable
  • Multi-bin waste stations at races to help separate garbage from recyclable and compostable materials. After each event, we sort through the waste, compost, and recycling and reuse what we can
  • Over all, the MEC Calgary store has over 95% waste diversion
  • We choose minimal race packages and email communicate to our participants, to help limit paper consumption

How to lower your event impact:

  • Take transit, bike and carpool to events.
  • BYOB: Bring Your Own water Bottle.
  • Put your waste in the appropriate bins provided: Recycling, compost, waste
  • Reuse your own water bottle or the compostable cups provided

We offer unique, community venues for our events. Remember that we are guests in these parks and the pathways are still open to the public. Please respect and accommodate other pathway users.

Music players: Although music players aren’t banned, we encourage you to use them wisely. If you are listening to music, we suggest running with only one earbud to help you be aware of your surroundings.

Strollers: We allow people to run with strollers. We encourage people with strollers to start near the back to prevent injuring other runners with the stroller.

Dogs: We do not allow participants to run with dogs. We ask that spectators who bring their dogs to the race area keep them on a leash at all times.

We always need volunteers and we really appreciate all the help. Contact us for more information on how you can be involved on the MEC Events Team and the benefits.

If you would like more information or would like to volunteer for this event, please email or call 403-269-2420.
