Surrey Kids Tri - Nov12
Our event is an introduction to the sport of triathlon for kids between the ages of 7-12. We will emphasize that each child focus on personal achievement with the goal of completion not competition, as outlined by the Kids of Steel training philosophy. The kids will swim in the South Surrey Indoor pool, and after doing a full change, they will 'roll to run' (bike to run) on a gravel/sand field at the HT Thrift Elementary school, which is located directly beside the South Surrey Indoor Pool. We will have three different training groups with three different distances. The distance the child swims, bikes, and runs will be dependant on the child's age. This event is very safe because at no time will the kids be biking or running on the road. We will have two NCCP triathlon coaches on hand at the event, and we will also have 8-10 volunteers. We are also consulting with Emily Vickery at Tri BC and Kris Hildebrand of Exceleration Tri Club in Vancouver to make sure we plan a fun, safe, and challenging event. We are aiming to have at least 40 children in attendance.
This event is also a third-party fundraiser for the Surrey Food Bank. Each child in attendance will be encouraged to bring a canned good or a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Food Bank.
