Fell running: the sport of racing and running off road in the hills and mountains of England.

This race is a hybrid mash-up of the Fell running of our English race director's homeland, and a more traditional North American style trail running race. The Fortune Fell race connects the ski hills ("fells") of Camp Fortune with sections of amazing flowing single track! The best of both worlds! And, it's priced like an English fell race too! Just $15.

Runners at the summit of Heggtveit in the 2016 event.

What's this race like?

The steepest, nastiest ski run at Camp Fortune  is called Heggtveit! It is 30% grade in some spots. How do you fancy trying to run UP that ski run? Its going to kill your quads, make you see stars and burn your lungs. That's just one of three mega ascents in this route - you will tackle Slalom hill and Brian's Trail too! Sounds like fun, right? - run the 9km route!

Want a serious challenge, but don't fancy trying the full 9km challenge? (Dont worry, you still get to run UP a ski hill "fell" and Brian's trail....) - run the 5km route!

New to running? Need an intro to trail running with very little ascent? Want your kids to join us too? How about a gentle intro to off road running with a 3km lap around Camp Fortune? - register for the 3km race!

RACE ROUTE

9k / 421m ascent

The tough one! Start with a short sharp ascent (make sure you are fully warmed up!) on a ski hill before hitting some technical single track, then looping the steepest North East ski slopes of Camp Fortune (including the frankly terrifying 30% slopes of Heggtveit!), the route then ascends the Slalom slope (almost as steep as Hegg), descends back down to hit some single track under the high ropes and aerials course, a loop around the biathlon track and shooting range before ascending again up and down Brian's Trail on some classic flowing single track.

5k / 182m ascent

New route for 2017! Now starting with a short - sharp ascent...then dive into some amazing technical single track before looping up and over the upper slopes of the Paradis ski run, through some single track to get to, then descend humdinger, traverse the north facing slopes before taking on the same fast single track as the 9k race and looping up and over the switch backs of Brian's Trail.

3k / 50m ascent

Start heading uphill then hang a right to traverse the ski slopes, run through the single track section in the woods under the ropes course, loop the biathlon shooting range before taking the gently sloping trails back to the lodge at Camp Fortune.

Word of warning - don't download these maps to rely on as a GPS guide, they have been drawn by hand using the Ride With GPS route planner, they are approximate! GPS tracks of these routes exist, search for them online!
